EAST WHITELAND TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development recently approved East Whiteland Township for $3 million in new funding to improve Route 30.

The project, which is expected to create 141 direct jobs and support an additional 55 indirect jobs in the local economy, will provide access to neighborhoods, Immaculata University, the Chester Valley Trail, and other large employers in the township. Improvements will include two lanes in each direction, a center turning lane, improved intersections, dedicated bike lanes, separated sidewalks, and improved bus stops.

In a released statement, Pennsylvania Representative Chrissy Houlahan spoke about the importance of investing in local infrastructure projects. Citing her experience as an entrepreneur and engineer, Houlahan stressed the need for safe roads and bridges in order to support the businesses and people of Chester County. She praised Governor Wolf and other county partners for their support of the Route 30 expansion project, which she said would improve safety and traffic flow in the area. Houlahan’s remarks underscore the importance of investing in infrastructure at all levels in order to ensure a thriving economy.

In today’s economy, it is more important than ever to have structurally sound roads and bridges. Small businesses in particular rely on these roadway projects to get their products to market. The Route 30 expansion is a long overdue improvement that will prioritize the safety of commuters, delivery trucks, and cyclists.

The TIIF program is administered in cooperation with DCED and PennDOT.
