Bridge Work on U.S. 422 to Disrupt Traffic in Chester and Montgomery Counties

Traffic, lane closed

SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that drivers should brace for disruptions on U.S. 422, as overhead bridge work commences this week. The work is part of a considerable effort by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission aimed at widening and enhancing its bridges between mileposts 324-326, spanning Tredyffrin Township in Chester County and Upper Merion Township in Montgomery County.

Scheduled for the early hours of Tuesday, May 7, and Wednesday, May 8, from 3:00 AM to 6:00 AM, the project will necessitate single lane closures along both eastbound and westbound lanes of U.S. 422, stretching from 1st Avenue to U.S. 202. During these periods, motorists can expect periodic traffic pacing operations, designed to manage the flow of vehicles through the construction zone safely.

Travelers are urged to proceed with caution when nearing the affected segments of the highway and to anticipate potential slowdowns or halts in traffic. While these measures aim to minimize impact, the presence of construction activities invariably presents a challenge to seamless travel.

This initiative falls under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit. The overarching goal of the bridge widening and improvement project not only pertains to enhancing structural integrity but also to accommodating increasing traffic volumes and fostering smoother commutes for the thousands who daily traverse this corridor.

Given the dependency of construction schedules on favorable weather conditions, motorists are advised to stay informed on any updates or adjustments to the work timeline. The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, in partnership with PennDOT, is committed to executing these necessary improvements with minimal disruption, ensuring that safety and efficiency remain paramount throughout the process.
