Wilmington Man Accused of Holding Knife to Woman’s Throat in Newark Dunkin’ Robbery

NEWARK, DEDelaware State Police have charged a Wilmington man in connection with an alleged armed robbery that took place outside a Dunkin’ location earlier this month in Newark.

According to authorities, the incident occurred on the evening of July 5, 2025, at approximately 5:30 p.m., when a 32-year-old woman was approached by a male suspect while standing on the sidewalk outside Dunkin’ on Geoffrey Drive. Police allege the man brandished a knife, held it to the woman’s throat, and demanded her belongings. The victim complied and surrendered her purse. She was not physically harmed during the confrontation.

Following an investigation, Delaware State Police identified 31-year-old Cortez Crawford of Wilmington as the suspect. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

At the time of his arrest on July 15, Crawford was already in custody at Howard R. Young Correctional Institution. He was formally charged with first-degree robbery and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony. Following arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 2, he was remanded to custody on a $40,000 cash bond.

All charges are allegations. A defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
