WILMINGTON, DE — A 24-year-old Wilmington man is facing multiple felony firearm and drug charges after New Castle County police reported finding a loaded handgun with an obliterated serial number and approximately 560 grams of marijuana during a traffic stop.
Officers with Patrol C Squad were conducting proactive patrols in the Edgemoor area at approximately 6:54 p.m. Sept. 23 when they observed what they believed was a possible drug transaction involving Jaydan Deputy, 24, according to police.
Police said officers subsequently stopped a Honda Accord driven by Deputy on Governor Printz Boulevard.
During the traffic stop, officers located a duffel bag inside the vehicle containing a loaded handgun with an obliterated serial number, according to police. Officers also reported finding approximately 560 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Police reported taking Deputy into custody without incident and transporting him to New Castle County Police Headquarters.
Deputy was charged with two felony counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, and one felony count each of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a weapon with an obliterated serial number, and Tier 1 possession of a controlled substance. He was also charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
Deputy was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $72,200 cash bail, according to police.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
