WILMINGTON, DE — A 38-year-old man wanted by Wilmington police is facing additional firearm charges after officers reported recovering a loaded handgun from a parked vehicle.
Members of the Wilmington Police Department’s Uniformed Services Division were in the 1000 block of North Lombard Street at approximately 9:30 p.m. Sept. 17 when they observed Kendall Gardner, 38, according to police.
Officers confirmed Gardner had an outstanding Wilmington Police Department warrant and subsequently observed him enter a parked vehicle in the same block, police said.
Police reported that officers made contact with Gardner and took him into custody without incident.
Officers later executed a search warrant on the vehicle and recovered a loaded 9mm handgun, according to police.
In addition to the outstanding warrant, Gardner was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited and possession of a weapon with an obliterated serial number.
Gardner was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $20,000 cash-only bail.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
