NEWARK, DE — Two juveniles are accused of firearm, drug, and theft-related offenses following an early morning vehicle break-in investigation, according to New Castle County police.
Police reported that at approximately 2:24 a.m. on Friday, April 10, 2026, officers responded to the unit block of Alexis Drive in the Chapman Woods Townhomes community for reports of individuals allegedly breaking into vehicles.
According to investigators, officers observed three individuals matching descriptions provided and detained a 16-year-old male and a 14-year-old male, both of Wilmington.
Police said the 14-year-old was allegedly found in possession of marijuana and items later identified as belonging to a victim of a reported vehicle break-in.
Authorities reported a third suspect, a 15-year-old male, allegedly fled on foot but was apprehended on Alexis Drive. During the pursuit, police said the juvenile allegedly discarded a loaded silver handgun, which was recovered by an officer.
Police stated the 16-year-old male was released without charges.
According to investigators, the 15-year-old has been charged with possession of a firearm by a person under 21, possession of ammunition by a person under 21, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, resisting arrest with force or violence, possession of marijuana, conspiracy in the third degree, and attempted theft under $1,500.
Police reported the 15-year-old was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to a juvenile detention center after failing to post $27,500 secured bail.
Authorities said the 14-year-old has been charged with possession of marijuana and theft under $1,500. Police reported the juvenile was arraigned and released on $7,000.00 unsecured bail.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
