HARRISBURG, PA — A Philadelphia man has been charged after investigators alleged he traveled to Montgomery County intending to meet someone he believed to be a 12-year-old child for unlawful activity.
Attorney General Dave Sunday announced Thursday that 33-year-old Oleksandr Kanarchyk was arrested following an undercover investigation conducted by the Office of Attorney General’s Child Predator Section.
According to investigators, the operation began when an undercover agent created an online profile as part of an investigation into the exploitation of minors.
Prosecutors allege Kanarchyk responded to the profile, communicated with the undercover agent and arranged to meet at a hotel in Conshohocken.
When Kanarchyk arrived at the hotel parking lot, agents located him inside his vehicle and took him into custody without incident, according to the Attorney General’s Office.
Kanarchyk has been charged with felony counts of criminal attempt to commit rape of a child, unlawful contact with a minor and related offenses.
Court records show bail was set at $500,000 cash. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 8.
The case was investigated by the Office of Attorney General’s Child Predator Section and is being prosecuted by Senior Deputy Attorney General Michelle Laucella.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
