Juvenile Charged After Police Recover Gun in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, DE — A 17-year-old male has been charged with firearm offenses after Wilmington police allegedly recovered a handgun, ammunition, and an extended magazine during an investigation Tuesday afternoon.

According to Wilmington Police, members of the Safe Streets Task Force were in the 900 block of Madison Street at approximately 2:49 p.m. on June 10 when they made contact with a male subject whom officers described as acting suspiciously.

Police reported that the juvenile was taken into custody without incident.

During the investigation, officers allegedly recovered a 9mm handgun without a serial number, ammunition, and a 30-round extended magazine, according to police.

The juvenile was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited and carrying a concealed deadly weapon, police said.

Court records cited by police show the 17-year-old was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on $14,000 cash-only bail.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
