HORSHAM TWP, PA — A 36-year-old man is headed to Montgomery County Court on drug and firearm charges after Horsham Township police said an investigation that began with suspicious activity at a hotel led officers to a loaded handgun and suspected illegal drugs.
Horsham police said officers responded to a township hotel June 18 for a report of suspicious activity.
During the initial investigation, officers encountered Anthony Smith, 36, and reported recovering a small quantity of suspected illegal drugs from his possession.
Police said investigators subsequently obtained a warrant to search Smith’s vehicle.
During the search, officers reported recovering a loaded, operable handgun that police allege Smith was prohibited by law from possessing. Investigators also reported finding additional suspected illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia and items police described as consistent with the sale and distribution of controlled substances.
Smith was charged with carrying a firearm without a license, intentional possession of a controlled substance not authorized by law, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
On Sept. 10, Smith appeared for a preliminary hearing, where all charges were held for Montgomery County Court, police reported.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
