WILMINGTON, DE — Two men were arrested following a drug investigation launched in response to community complaints about suspected illegal drug activity, according to Wilmington police.
Members of the Wilmington Police Department’s Drug, Organized Crime and Vice Division were in the area of Ninth and Kirkwood streets at approximately 9:55 a.m. July 16 when investigators allegedly observed two individuals engaged in suspected drug transactions.
According to police, officers made contact with both men and recovered a total of 91 bags of heroin, weighing approximately 2.73 grams, about 0.5 grams of crack cocaine, and $487 in cash.
Police identified the suspects as Andre Thomas, 28, and Abdul Mohammad, 54, of Chester, PA. Investigators also reported that Thomas was wanted on multiple unrelated matters at the time of his arrest.
Thomas was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. Following his arraignment in New Castle County Court of Common Pleas, he was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution pending further proceedings, according to police.
Mohammad was charged with possession of a controlled substance in a Tier 2 quantity. After his arraignment in New Castle County Court of Common Pleas, he was released on $2,500 unsecured bail, police reported.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
