NEWARK, DE — A 15-year-old Newark boy faces multiple felony charges after police alleged he pointed a concealed handgun at two people and struck one of them with the weapon during an altercation at Lumbrook Park.
Newark police responded to the park at 100 Woodlawn Ave. at approximately 7:15 p.m. Sept. 24 for a report of a person with a firearm.
Police said three juveniles became involved in an altercation with another group at the park. During the confrontation, investigators allege one of the juveniles pulled a concealed handgun and pointed it at two victims before striking one of them in the face with the weapon, causing an injury.
Victims and witnesses described the handgun as having a distinctive pattern and coloration, according to police.
Detectives identified a 15-year-old Newark boy as the person they allege possessed the handgun. Police said the juvenile had left the immediate area before officers could take him into custody.
On Sept. 26, detectives executed a search warrant at the boy’s residence. Police reported finding two fully 3D-printed handguns, including one investigators said matched the description of the firearm used during the alleged assault. Detectives also recovered a 3D printer, firearm parts and ammunition.
The 15-year-old was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, second-degree assault, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, two counts of aggravated menacing and noncompliance with conditions of recognizance bond.
Following a video arraignment before a Justice of the Peace Court 11 judge, the juvenile received $27,000 cash bail and was transported to the New Castle County Juvenile Detention Center.
Police said the two other juveniles allegedly involved in the incident have been identified and arrest warrants were obtained for misdemeanor charges related to the case.
