KENNETT SQUARE, PA — The Martin Luther King CommUNITY of the Greater Kennett Area is delighted to announce that the much-anticipated 23rd Annual MLK Celebration is set to take place from January 13-15, 2024. This year’s event promises an enriching experience, featuring enlightening discussions, interactive workshops, and an inspiring keynote address.

The celebration will commence with the “Change for Change” coin collection at the Franklin Mint FCU in Kennett Square on January 13. This initiative aims to help feed the hungry in our community, embodying the spirit of compassion and unity that Dr. King championed.

On January 14, attendees are invited to the Kennett Library for a free film and discussion on “Slavery in the Age of Revolution,” presented by Hon. Oliver Franklin OBE. This thought-provoking presentation will shed light on the transatlantic slave trade’s enduring impact on society.

The signature MLK Day Fellowship Brunch will be held at Lincoln University on January 15. Doors open at 9:30 AM for this uplifting event, which will feature Dr. Robin Smith as the keynote speaker. Dr. Smith, a bestselling author, ordained minister, and host of SiriusXM’s The Dr. Robin Show, is renowned for her fearless truth-telling and healing perspective on today’s most pressing social justice and mental health issues. She will also be available to sign her new book, THE INVISIBLE ACHE: Black Men Identifying Their Pain and Reclaiming Their Power.

Following the brunch, two interactive workshops will be held from 1 to 3 PM, focused on the theme of the day, “It Begins With Me: Cultivating a Beloved Community.” Partner organization On Earth Peace will present the first workshop, providing participants with tools to respond to conflict and injustice using Kingian Nonviolence. The second workshop, presented by the Center for Inclusive Education and Scholarship at Drexel University, will equip attendees with foundational knowledge about white supremacy, and practical skills to promote social justice in everyday life.
