WAYNE, PA — Students from BLAST Robotics, a FIRST Robotics Competition team based in Chester County, volunteered alongside U.S. Rep. Chrissy Houlahan at a community event in Wilson Farm Park, gaining firsthand exposure to civic leadership while supporting event operations and engaging with elected officials.

The event brought together Houlahan, state and local officials, community organizations and residents. BLAST Robotics announced that its students helped with stage setup, audio-visual equipment, banners, seating and food service.

Student leaders Vivaan KP and Virat Ram represented the team at the event, joining other members in coordinating logistics and assisting organizers.

Beyond volunteering, students participated in discussions with Houlahan about the roles of local, state and federal government, civic engagement and public policymaking.

A portion of the conversation focused on the rapid growth of data centers and the challenges communities face as development expands. According to BLAST Robotics, the discussion examined issues including energy demand, water consumption, land use, transportation infrastructure, environmental considerations and balancing technological growth with local community interests.

“Engineering is about more than building robots,” the BLAST Robotics leadership team stated. “It is about developing leaders who understand how technology, public policy, sustainability, and community service work together to shape a better future.”

The team indicated that civic engagement and community service are central components of its program, complementing technical education through partnerships with government, industry, educational institutions and nonprofit organizations.

BLAST Robotics also expressed appreciation to Houlahan, local elected officials, event organizers, volunteers and participating families for supporting the educational experience.
