PHILADELPHIA, PA — ZeroEyes deployed its artificial intelligence-based gun detection software across a rural Kansas school district serving approximately 285 students, using state grant funding to expand security capabilities where geographic distance and limited local resources can complicate emergency response.
Goessel USD 411 installed the system at its elementary school and combined junior-senior high school. The district employs approximately 75 faculty and staff members across the two campuses.
The purchase was financed through the Kansas Safe and Secure Firearm Detection Grant Program, administered by the state attorney general’s office. District officials identified gun detection as a security priority after consulting local law enforcement and community leaders.
ZeroEyes integrates its software with existing digital security cameras to identify visible firearms. When the system flags a potential weapon, images are transmitted to a continuously staffed operations center for review.
If personnel verify the threat, alerts containing a description of the weapon, its type and its last known location are sent to school officials and law enforcement. The company reported that notifications can be delivered within seconds of detection.
The operations center is staffed by military and law enforcement veterans, according to ZeroEyes.
“The ability to accurately detect and identify a handgun from a distance exceeded our expectations and gave us added confidence in the technology’s role in helping keep our schools safe,” Goessel Superintendent Scott Boden stated.
The district coordinates its security efforts with county law enforcement and surrounding agencies. The new system is intended to accelerate communication among those responders when a potential firearm threat is detected.
