PHILADELPHIA, PA — Zahav Foods recently introduced a schug-flavored hummus product, expanding its line of packaged goods now sold in more than 150 Whole Foods Market locations across 16 states.
The new product, Hummus Schug, combines the company’s original hummus with a topping made from schug, a Yemenite condiment composed of green chiles, herbs and spices.
The product is sold in a 10-ounce package priced at $7.99 and is distributed in markets including Pennsylvania, the Washington, D.C., region, the Rocky Mountain area, and the South Pacific.
Zahav Foods was co-founded in 2024 by restaurateurs Michael Solomonov and Steven Cook, who operate Zahav restaurant in Philadelphia and other food concepts.
The company said the hummus base is made with chickpeas, tehina, lemon juice, salt, cumin and garlic, while the schug topping includes serrano peppers, parsley, cilantro and additional spices.
Steven Cook, co-founder of Zahav Foods, said the addition of schug introduces a new flavor profile to the product line.
“There’s a freshness to schug that you don’t find in other spicy condiments,” Cook said.
Zahav Foods launched its original hummus product at Whole Foods Market in January 2024 and expanded distribution nationwide later that year.
The company introduced single-serve hummus packs in October 2025, which are available at Harris Teeter and select independent retailers.
Zahav Foods products are also sold at select Wegmans locations in the Philadelphia area, more than 200 Harris Teeter stores, Pop Up Grocer in New York City, McCaffrey’s stores in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and other independent retailers.
