Your Roosevelt Boulevard Commute Is About to Get Worse

Traffic Advisory

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Drivers on U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) should prepare for long-term lane restrictions and shifting traffic patterns beginning Monday as PennDOT launches a multi-year safety improvement project along the busy corridor.

At a Glance

  • Roads Affected: U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) (southbound local lanes)
  • Dates: Monday, May 4 – Friday, July 31
  • Times: 24/7
  • Reason: Crossover and intersection safety improvements

A continuous left lane closure will be in place around the clock on the southbound local lanes of Roosevelt Boulevard between Grant Avenue and Michener Street. The restriction is part of a broader effort to improve traffic flow and reduce crashes at several high-risk intersections.

During the closure, drivers in the southbound local lanes will be directed to use the crossover lane just south of Fulmer Street to merge into the southbound express lanes. Motorists should anticipate congestion as traffic shifts between the local and express systems.

The project targets five key intersections — Revere/Faunce Street, Strahle Street, Winchester Avenue, Michener Street, and Fulmer Street — with upgrades that include realigned crosswalks, improved traffic signals, ADA-compliant curb ramps, and better pedestrian access to SEPTA bus stops.
