Wilmington Teen Arrested Following Vehicle Theft and Collision

WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police have arrested a 14-year-old male in connection with a stolen vehicle that crashed into the front porch of a structure on West 11th Street. The incident occurred on December 15 around 9:42 p.m., adding to a recent spate of vehicle thefts in the city.

Officers were patrolling the area of 7th and North Washington Streets when they spotted an occupied stolen vehicle. When they attempted to stop the vehicle, it sped away from the officers. The vehicle was later found in the 700 block of West 11th Street, where it had collided with the front porch of a building.

The police apprehended the 14-year-old male suspect following the crash. He faces a range of charges including theft of a motor vehicle, second-degree conspiracy, two counts of criminal mischief over $1,000, resisting arrest, and leaving the scene of an accident. He was also charged with multiple traffic violations.

Following his arraignment in the New Castle County Family Court, the teenager was committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on $8,007 secured bail.

The Wilmington Police Department’s investigation into this incident is ongoing. They have not released further details about the case or the identity of the young suspect, who is protected due to his juvenile status.

An arrest, criminal complaint, or information does not constitute a declaration of guilt. The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
