Wilmington Police Apprehend Wanted Man in Connection with Armed Robberies Targeting Hispanic Community

Police News

WILMINGTON, DE — The Wilmington Police Department has made a significant arrest in relation to two armed robbery incidents that occurred on Saturday, October 21. The suspect, whose identity is yet to be revealed, was wanted and has been taken into custody without incident in Pennsylvania. He will be extradited to Delaware for arraignment at a later date.

At approximately 8:00 p.m. on the day of the incidents, members of the Uniformed Services Division responded to calls from the 1100 block of Maryland Avenue and the intersection of Chestnut and South VanBuren Streets. Initial investigations suggest that the victims may have been singled out based on their Hispanic ethnicity.

Officers at the scene were able to provide a description of the suspect’s vehicle. This crucial piece of information led members of the Safe Streets Task Force to locate the vehicle in the 100 block of Greenhill Avenue just eleven minutes later, at approximately 8:11 p.m.

On attempting to stop the vehicle, the driver fled the scene, leading police on a chase that ended in Pennsylvania. The male subject was subsequently apprehended without incident. Charges and bail details will be released following the suspect’s arraignment in Delaware.

While this arrest marks a significant step forward in the investigation, the case remains open. The Wilmington Police Department is urging anyone with additional information to come forward. Sgt. Sean Nolan can be contacted directly at (302) 654-5151 or via email at Sean.Nolan@cj.state.de.us.

The department stated it will continue to investigate these incidents thoroughly and take necessary measures to prevent such targeted crimes in the future.
