WILMINGTON, DE — A 67-year-old man from Wilmington, Delaware, was taken into custody by the Delaware State Police on Friday afternoon following allegations of a road rage incident involving a firearm. The suspect has been identified as Paul Briggs.

The incident unfolded on December 15, 2023, around 12:30 p.m., when a 52-year-old man from Landenberg, Pennsylvania, dialed 911 to report a road rage encounter on Barley Mill Road in Greenville. According to the victim, he had stopped for a red light at the intersection of Barley Mill Road and Montchanin Road when a white male with a beard, driving a Honda Accord, allegedly pulled up beside him, brandished a handgun, and then sped away.

The victim was able to note down the registration number of the Honda and provided this information to the responding trooper. The registration was traced back to Briggs, who matched the description given by the victim.

Upon making contact with Briggs at his residence, the trooper found that Briggs cooperated willingly, sharing his version of the events. This led to the recovery of the firearm in question at the residence. Briggs was subsequently arrested without any resistance and taken to Troop 1.

Briggs was charged with felony aggravated menacing, a serious charge that carries significant penalties. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and was released on his own recognizance.

It is essential to note that an arrest, or the filing of charges, is not indicative of guilt. Briggs, like all suspects, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
