Wilmington Homicide Under Investigation: Texas Man Found Dead in Vehicle

WILMINGTON, DE — Delaware State Police are currently investigating a homicide that occurred in Wilmington on Saturday night, resulting in the death of a man found in a vehicle.

The incident took place on December 9, 2023, around 7:17 p.m. Troopers were called to the scene following reports of a shooting at the Eagle Tobacco Shop located at 3505 Miller Road in Wilmington. Upon their arrival, police found evidence of a shooting, but no victims were present at the location.

Initial findings from the investigation suggest that the victim was sitting in his car in the parking lot of the tobacco shop when a dark-colored SUV pulled in. An occupant of the SUV allegedly fired several rounds at the victim before fleeing the scene in an unknown direction.

In an attempt to escape, the victim drove to P.S. Dupont Middle School where he crashed through a fence and came to a halt on the school property. When police reached the victim, they discovered he had sustained a gunshot wound to the upper body. The victim, a 22-year-old man from Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld until his family is notified.
