Uplynk, Grass Valley Deploy Cloud-Based Broadcast Systems

Uplynk

WILMINGTON, DE — Uplynk and Grass Valley recently completed two broadcast deployments that shift master control operations from satellite-based systems to cloud-based architectures, enabling digital delivery of live and linear content.

The deployments use Grass Valley’s AMPP platform and Uplynk’s cloud-based master control system to support software-defined, IP-based workflows across multiple regions.

The companies said the systems are designed to allow broadcasters to transition from satellite transmission to cloud infrastructure without replacing existing operations.

The deployments support two media organizations, including one operating 24/7 linear channels across multiple regions and another managing high-volume global live sports events.

The architecture enables master control functions to run in the cloud with geographic redundancy and automated failover, reducing reliance on on-premises hardware and satellite backhaul.

Uplynk said its platform manages content ingestion, channel assembly, and distribution, while Grass Valley provides cloud-based production and playout capabilities.

The companies said the system supports a range of live programming, including sports, concerts, news, and corporate events.

Eric Black, chief executive officer and chief technology officer of Uplynk, said the approach is intended to extend traditional broadcast systems into IP-based environments while maintaining operational reliability.

Steve Hassan, senior director of playout at Grass Valley, said broadcasters are seeking ways to transition to software-based infrastructure without disrupting existing workflows.

The deployments come as media companies increasingly adopt cloud-based systems to support scalable, global content distribution.

Uplynk provides streaming and broadcast infrastructure for media companies, while Grass Valley develops production and playout systems for broadcasters.
