ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — Montgomery County is preparing for major trail construction scheduled on Greenwood Avenue/Jenkintown Road, as part of a local safety improvement project.

Beginning Monday, December 4, 2023, through Friday, October 4, 2024, there will be a weekday lane closure on Greenwood Avenue/Jenkintown Road between Washington Lane and Meetinghouse Road. The closures will occur from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has advised motorists to allow extra time when traveling through the work area due to expected backups and delays. The construction activities are subject to weather conditions and may be rescheduled or adjusted depending on the severity of the winter season.

The construction project will involve significant improvements to the trail connections between Jenkintown and Alverthorpe Park, including the installation of a shared use path along Washington Lane, Greenwood Avenue, and Jenkintown Road.

The project forms part of a broader plan involving the reconstruction of Edge Hill Road and Tyson Avenue from the intersection of Jenkintown Road to the intersection of Easton Road. The planned improvements are aimed at enhancing the safety and efficiency of the road network in Abington Township.

Motorists are encouraged to stay updated with the latest traffic advisories and to plan their commutes accordingly during the construction period.
