Traffic Stoppages and Lane Closures to Impact U.S. 1 and Rockhill Drive Next Week

Traffic, flagging

BUCKS COUNTY, PA — Travelers along U.S. 1 and Rockhill Drive in Bucks County should brace for disruptions next week as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) embarks on significant bridge construction activities. These efforts form part of a comprehensive $116 million initiative aimed at reconstructing, widening, and enhancing a three-mile stretch of U.S. 1 in Bensalem and Middletown townships, ensuring safer and smoother travels for motorists in the long term.

Starting Monday, April 1, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, eastbound traffic on Rockhill Drive between Horizon Boulevard and Mall Boulevard will encounter 10-minute stoppages. This initial phase is designed to facilitate safe construction operations, but it is expected to result in temporary traffic congestion and delays.

The construction activity intensifies on Tuesday, April 2, with 10-minute traffic stoppages planned in both directions on Rockhill Drive within the same stretch. These stoppages, occurring from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, are poised to disrupt nighttime travel, urging drivers to plan alternate routes or prepare for longer travel times.

In addition to the stoppages on Rockhill Drive, a crucial right lane closure on southbound U.S. 1 between Route 413 (Bellevue Avenue) and Rockhill Drive is scheduled for Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. This closure, pivotal to the ongoing construction efforts, signals further potential delays for southbound travelers. Should adverse weather conditions arise, the work is slated to be postponed to Wednesday, April 3, extending the window of potential travel disruptions.

PennDOT advises all motorists planning to navigate these areas to allocate additional travel time and exercise patience when encountering work zones. The planned construction activities, while temporary, are essential steps toward achieving a more efficient and safer roadway network in Bucks County.

As with all construction projects under PennDOT’s oversight, the scheduled work on U.S. 1 and Rockhill Drive is contingent upon favorable weather conditions. Motorists are encouraged to stay informed on the latest updates and adjust their travel plans accordingly, keeping in mind that backups and delays are expected during these critical improvement efforts.
