Traffic Alert: I-95 Northbound Lane and Ramp Closures Scheduled in Center City

road work

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Motorists, take note: The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced upcoming lane and ramp closures on northbound Interstate 95 in Center City Philadelphia. These measures are part of the extensive $329 million CAP project, aimed at replacing and expanding the covered area over the interstate.

For those traveling through the area, expect significant disruptions during the following times: On Tuesday, April 9, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the next day, a segment of the left lane on northbound I-95 between South Street and Market Street will be closed. This closure is necessary for the relocation of construction equipment. Additionally, during a brief window from 4:00 AM to 5:00 AM that same day, the northbound I-95 on-ramp at Lombard Circle will be inaccessible. Drivers will be rerouted to an alternate on-ramp located on Columbus Boulevard, just south of Lombard Street.

These closures are essential for the progress of the CAP project, but they will undeniably lead to significant backups and delays. Motorists planning to travel through or near the work areas are strongly advised to allocate extra time to their commutes. Patience and caution are urged as these temporary measures are implemented to ensure the safety of both workers and drivers alike.

As always, the scheduling of these closures is contingent upon favorable weather conditions. Drivers are encouraged to stay informed and plan their routes accordingly to navigate around these disruptions with minimal inconvenience.
