TESCO Expands Optical Pickup Compatibility to Itron Sentinel Meters

TESCO Metering

BRISTOL, PATESCO Metering announced that its 1037-RIV Optical Pickup is now fully compatible with Itron Sentinel meters, broadening utility teams’ options for reliable pulse detection across diverse meter platforms used in advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) environments.

The optical pickup, originally engineered for Itron’s Gen™5 Riva™ meters, has been updated to support Sentinel meters without the need for separate tools or modifications. This enhancement simplifies testing in the field, allowing technicians to use a single device for both Riva and Sentinel models.

“Utilities want tools that just work—across their mixed fleets, in real-world conditions,” said Tom Lawton, president and CEO of TESCO. “By extending the 1037-RIV to support Itron Sentinel meters, we’re making field testing simpler and more dependable. One pickup, consistent alignment, clean signals—so technicians can focus on the work, not the workaround.”

The 1037-RIV features automatic alignment via an integral elastic band, infrared pulse detection that remains accurate in the presence of AMI or RF interference, and materials built to ANSI standards for durability in demanding conditions. It also blocks ambient light to ensure clean signal capture.

The device integrates seamlessly with a wide range of TESCO equipment, including the 6330 Meter Site Analyzer and DTS-2990 Desktop Meter Station, with multiple cable configurations available for flexible deployment in both lab and field environments.
