FAIRLESS HILLS, PA — Sibanye-Stillwater has consolidated three acquired recycling businesses into a single global precious metals recycling platform, a move that expands its position in a market increasingly viewed as critical to securing supplies of platinum group metals, gold, and other strategic materials.
The integration combines the operations of Reldan, Reldan Mexico, Metallix, and the company’s existing Columbus autocatalyst recycling business under a unified recycling platform.
The consolidation follows Sibanye-Stillwater’s acquisition of Reldan and Reldan Mexico in March 2024 and Metallix in September 2025. Together, the businesses process and recover precious metals from industrial waste, electronics, jewelry scrap, autocatalysts, and other secondary material streams.
The move reflects growing industry interest in recycling as a source of metals traditionally obtained through mining, particularly as manufacturers seek more resilient supply chains and governments increase focus on resource security.
According to the company, the combined operation includes refining facilities in the United States and India, processing capabilities across Asia, and commercial operations serving customers in multiple international markets.
By bringing the businesses together, Sibanye-Stillwater aims to create a larger integrated recycling network capable of processing increasingly complex waste streams containing gold, silver, platinum, palladium, rhodium, and iridium.
The recycling business will also leverage analytical laboratories, refining infrastructure, and commercial relationships developed across the acquired companies and existing operations.
Recycled metals have become an increasingly important component of global supply chains, particularly for platinum group metals used in automotive, industrial, electronics, and clean-energy applications. Recycling can provide an alternative source of material without the lead times and capital requirements associated with developing new mines.
The company said the integrated platform is intended to connect recycling activities with Sibanye-Stillwater’s broader mining and processing operations, creating a more vertically integrated precious metals business.
Sibanye-Stillwater is one of the world’s largest producers of platinum group metals and also operates gold mining, metal processing, and recycling businesses. The company purchases, processes, and refines precious metal-bearing materials from industrial, automotive, electronics, and jewelry sectors worldwide.
The integration positions recycling as a larger component of the company’s long-term strategy as demand for precious and critical metals continues to grow across multiple industries.
