Schuylkill Night Closures Could Jam Traffic Through June

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Overnight closures and lane restrictions will impact westbound Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) at 30th Street through early June, as bridge construction continues in Center City.

  • Times:
    • 9:00 PM – 10:00 PM (lane reduction)
    • 10:00 PM – 5:00 AM (full closure, Sundays–Thursdays)
  • Reason: Market Street bridge construction and rehabilitation

Each night, I-76 West will be reduced to one lane between 30th Street and I-676 before fully closing at 10:00 PM. During the closure, drivers will be directed to exit at 30th Street, travel west on Schuylkill Avenue, and use connecting ramps to rejoin I-76 West or access I-676 East.

Additional restrictions remain in place in the area. Southbound 30th Street is closed between JFK Boulevard and Market Street, while westbound Market Street is reduced to a single lane between Schuylkill Avenue and 30th Street. Drivers heading to Market Street via 30th Street will be directed to turn right onto JFK Boulevard and reconnect near 32nd Street.

Plan extra time, expect delays, and consider alternate routes when traveling through Center City overnight or approaching the Schuylkill Expressway.
