MANHEIM TWP, PA — Drivers using northbound Route 222 at Route 30 should prepare for overnight delays next week as milling and paving closes the right lane and forces westbound Route 30 traffic to stop before merging.
At a Glance
- Roads Affected: Northbound Route 222 and westbound Route 30
- Dates: Monday, Oct. 12, through Friday, Oct. 16
- Times: 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning
- Reason: Milling, paving and pavement marking placement
The right lane of northbound Route 222 will close during the overnight work periods as crews continue construction within the Route 30/Route 222 interchange.
A temporary stop condition also will be in place for westbound Route 30 traffic entering northbound Route 222. Drivers will be required to stop before merging onto the highway.
Motorists should expect delays, plan extra time and use caution when approaching the interchange and moving through the work zone. The schedule is weather dependent.
The restrictions are part of the $72.2 million Route 222/Route 30 Interchange Improvement Project. J.D. Eckman Inc. of Atglen is the contractor.
The broader project includes reconstruction of Route 222 for approximately one mile north of the interchange near Stoner Park and expansion of Route 222 from four lanes to six lanes within the project limits.
Crews also are adding capacity to several interchange ramps, including a second lane from southbound Route 222 to westbound Route 30, a third lane from westbound Route 30 to northbound Route 222 and a second ramp lane from eastbound Route 30 to northbound Route 222.
Two bridges carrying Route 222 ramps over Route 30 also will be replaced. The northbound Route 222 bridge will be widened to two lanes, while Route 222 will be lowered beneath the existing Eden Road bridge to increase clearance.
