PHILADELPHIA, PA — Rothkoff Law Group will bring elder-care professionals to Philadelphia on Oct. 15 for its ninth annual Elder Care Symposium, with journalist and caregiving advocate Kitty Eisele headlining a program focused on how firsthand experiences can shape care for older adults.

The symposium, scheduled for Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia, will convene social workers, nurses, care managers, advocates and other professionals working with older adults and their families. This year’s theme is “Elevating Voices in Elder Care.”

Eisele, host of “Twenty-Four Seven: A Podcast About Caregiving,” will deliver a keynote titled “Elevating the Caregiver Voice: A Journalist’s Personal Journey Through Dementia Care and Family Advocacy.”

Her presentation will draw on her experience caring for her father through dementia and address the physical and mental demands placed on family caregivers.

“How do you care for the people you love when they can’t care for themselves?” Eisele said. “Family caregivers need to be seen, heard and helped, because this is too hard to do alone.”

Programming throughout the symposium will address caregiving, end-of-life experiences, social determinants of health and the role of firsthand perspectives in decisions affecting older adults and their families.

Jerold E. Rothkoff, founder of Rothkoff Law Group, described the emphasis on lived experience as a way to strengthen person-centered care by recognizing older adults’ identities and improving connections among residents, families and caregivers.

The symposium is now in its ninth year and is designed as a professional education forum for people working across elder care.

Rothkoff Law Group serves older adults and families in Southeastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey through elder law attorneys, geriatric care coordinators, public-benefits specialists and other professionals. Its practice includes life-care planning, Medicaid and public benefits, estate and asset protection, guardianship, veterans’ benefits and long-term care advocacy.
