PICPA Adds Board Members Amid Accounting Industry Shift

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants appointed four new members to its board of directors and installed new leadership officers as the organization prepares for continued changes across the accounting profession tied to technology and workforce pressures.

The appointments were finalized during the organization’s annual meeting, held recently at The Omni Bedford Springs Resort & Spa in Bedford, Pennsylvania.

Newly sworn board members include Kara Darlington, chief executive officer of SEK CPAs and Advisors; Stefania DeMarco, managing director of clients and markets at Uniqus Consultech Inc.; Alexis O’Shaughnessy, assurance senior associate at PwC; and Joel Valentine, president and chief executive officer of Wessel & Company.

The organization also appointed Sean McVey, a partner at Deloitte, as president of the board.

Additional leadership appointments included Chris Kosty, director of business intelligence at Fred Rogers Productions, as president-elect; Timothy Martin, chief financial officer at Compco, as vice president; Sara Fry of Lancaster, PA, as vice president; and Ian McDowell, audit and assurance principal at S.R. Snodgrass, as treasurer.

“We are proud to have some of the most influential professionals in accounting serving on our board and leading our organization into a new era,” PICPA Chief Executive Officer Jen Cryder stated.

Cryder pointed to technology changes and workforce shifts as key challenges affecting certified public accountants and the broader accounting industry.

PICPA’s board oversees the organization’s operations and strategic direction. The board includes elected officers and seven at-large directors serving two-year terms.

Founded in 1897, PICPA represents nearly 18,000 members and is one of the oldest CPA organizations in the United States. The group focuses on professional advocacy, workforce development and continuing education for accounting professionals across Pennsylvania.
