PHILADELPHIA, PA — Philadelphia Youth Choral Ensembles is opening auditions for its 2026-27 season as the organization looks to recruit young singers for three choirs that collectively serve more than 400 children and teenagers across the Philadelphia region. The expansion effort comes as the organization continues to build on decades of international touring, high-profile performances, and music education programming.

Rolling auditions are now underway for the Philadelphia Boys Choir & Chorale, Philadelphia Girls Choir, and Commonwealth Youth Choir, according to the organization. Auditions are available to children ages 6 through 18 and require no prior music experience or formal vocal training.

The recruitment drive follows a period of continued visibility for the organization. The Philadelphia Boys Choir & Chorale was recently inducted into the Philadelphia Music Alliance Walk of Fame and counts Broadway composer Benj Pasek, Boyz II Men’s Shawn Stockman, and former CBS3 anchor Ukee Washington among its alumni.

Founded in the 1960s, the Philadelphia Boys Choir & Chorale has developed into an Emmy Award-winning and Grammy-nominated ensemble that has toured internationally and performed alongside major orchestras and soloists. The Commonwealth Youth Choir traces its roots to the Keystone State Boychoir and Pennsylvania Girlchoir, while the Philadelphia Girls Choir, established in 2012, has grown to serve more than 200 singers.

Together, the three choirs provide structured music education programs that advance students through age- and skill-based ensembles. Participants receive instruction in vocal technique, music theory, performance skills, and ensemble collaboration, while advanced singers have opportunities to perform with organizations including the Philadelphia Orchestra, Philadelphia Ballet, and Opera Philadelphia.

The organization said auditions typically last 15 to 20 minutes and include basic vocal exercises used to assess range, musical aptitude, and potential. Auditions for the Philadelphia Boys Choir & Chorale and Philadelphia Girls Choir are held at City Light Church in Philadelphia, while Commonwealth Youth Choir auditions take place at Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill.

“PYCE is a place where young singers can truly find their voice, not only as performers, but as confident young individuals,” Executive Director Michelle Frank said. “Whether students are stepping into their very first choir rehearsal or are experienced young performers, our choirs create opportunities for children to grow artistically, gain inner confidence, and become part of a supportive musical community that opens doors to unforgettable experiences.”

Students participate in weekly rehearsals throughout the school year, with tuition varying by ensemble level. The organization offers monthly payment plans and financial aid opportunities, though travel and touring expenses are separate from tuition costs.
