Pennoni Expands New York Engineering Operations With Key Hire

Business News

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Engineering firm Pennoni has hired veteran civil engineer Ken DeGennaro to lead the expansion of its civil engineering practice in New York City, a move that strengthens the company’s position in one of the nation’s largest infrastructure and development markets.

The appointment comes as demand for transportation, water, resiliency and municipal infrastructure projects continues across the New York metropolitan region, creating opportunities for engineering firms with expertise in public- and private-sector development.

Pennoni said DeGennaro will serve as civil engineering lead in its New York City office and oversee growth initiatives across the broader metropolitan area, including southern Connecticut and New Jersey.

The employee-owned engineering and consulting firm said the hire is intended to expand its civil engineering capabilities while complementing services already offered in the region.

DeGennaro brings more than three decades of industry experience and joins Pennoni from Brooker Engineering, where he served as a partner for more than 15 years. His background includes municipal capital improvement projects, flood mitigation and resiliency work, water and wastewater infrastructure, site development and land-use planning.

He is licensed as a professional engineer in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

Ralph Coppola, director of Pennoni’s Midtown Manhattan office, said the addition strengthens the firm’s ability to pursue growth opportunities in the region.

“His technical depth, leadership experience, and long-standing relationships in the region immediately enhance our ability to deliver integrated, high-value solutions to our clients,” Coppola said.

Pennoni said DeGennaro will work with multidisciplinary teams serving both government agencies and private-sector clients while helping guide the strategic direction of the firm’s civil engineering operations in New York.

The appointment reflects ongoing competition among engineering firms seeking to expand their presence in the Northeast infrastructure market, where public investment in resiliency, transportation and utility systems has increased in recent years.

DeGennaro said he sees opportunities to help clients address increasingly complex infrastructure challenges across the region.

“Pennoni’s strong EHS foundation, collaborative culture, and commitment to client service create a unique platform for growth,” he said.

The hire expands Pennoni’s leadership bench as engineering firms compete for a growing pipeline of infrastructure, resiliency and development projects across New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
