PHILADELPHIA, PA — Pathologie Friesland, a regional pathology laboratory in the Netherlands, is transitioning to Proscia’s Concentriq AP-Dx platform to expand its diagnostic network, support digital growth, and enable the use of artificial intelligence, the company announced.
The Friesland-based laboratory processes hundreds of thousands of images annually for hospitals, general practitioners, and private clinics, and is seeking to scale operations as demand for diagnostic services grows.
Company officials said the move will allow Pathologie Friesland to onboard new sites more efficiently, streamline workflows, and build a foundation for integrating AI into routine practice.
“While we have been largely digital for years, this is about what comes next,” said Gijsbert Zijlstra, CEO of Pathologie Friesland. “Concentriq AP-Dx gives us a flexible foundation for growth.”
The laboratory selected the platform following an evaluation process, citing its scalability, interoperability, and AI capabilities.
Pathologie Friesland plans to deploy the system on Amazon Web Services to support reliability, security, and performance needs.
“An important reason we chose Concentriq AP-Dx is the openness of the platform and the flexibility it offers to suit our specific needs and workflow,” said Marcel Dijkstra, a pathologist at the organization.
Officials said AI will play an increasing role in pathology, with the platform designed to integrate AI tools into daily operations.
“Concentriq AP-Dx is designed with AI built into the platform in a way that fits naturally into our daily practice,” said Marjolein Coster-Heerema, a pathologist at Pathologie Friesland.
The laboratory will begin using Proscia’s quality control application as an initial step and plans to expand its use of AI over time.
Proscia said its platform supports more than 130 AI applications, enabling laboratories to adopt a range of diagnostic tools.
“Pathologie Friesland is showing how laboratories can expand access to diagnoses while maintaining care standards,” said David West, CEO of Proscia.
Pathologie Friesland provides clinical-pathological diagnostics across the Dutch province of Friesland and serves hospitals, physicians, and clinics with diagnostic services and treatment guidance.
