Milford Man Arrested in Connection with Armed Robbery at Wilmington Smoke Shop

WILMINGTON, DE — Delaware State Police have confirmed the arrest of 37-year-old Robert Burns of Milford, Delaware, in relation to an alleged armed robbery that took place on Tuesday evening.

According to the authorities, troopers responded to reports of an armed robbery at Apollo Smoke Shop, located at 3613 Kirkwood Highway in Wilmington, around 7:55 p.m. on December 12, 2023. The initial investigation revealed that a then-unidentified white male suspect, now identified as Burns, allegedly approached an employee in the store and brandished a handgun from his waistband. It is reported that Burns demanded the employee empty the cash register.

After the victim complied and handed over an undisclosed amount of money, Burns is alleged to have fled the scene on foot.

On December 15, 2023, the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Criminal Investigations Unit reportedly located Burns in the parking lot of the Kent County Courthouse in Dover. He was subsequently arrested and transported to Troop 2.

Burns has been charged with first-degree robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Following his arraignment by Justice of the Peace Court 2, he was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution under a $120,000 cash bond.

These are allegations at this point, and as in all cases, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The information is subject to change as additional details may emerge during the ongoing investigation.
