Major Ridge Pike Traffic Shift Begins as $26.2M Construction Project Advances

Traffic Advisory

LOWER PROVIDENCE TWP, PA — Motorists traveling through Lower Providence Township should prepare for long-term traffic changes as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) begins a $26.2 million project to overhaul the Ridge Pike and Germantown Pike intersection, a key Montgomery County corridor expected to remain under construction through January 2027.

Starting Thursday, November 6, Ridge Pike will be reduced to a single lane in each direction between Germantown Pike and Crosskeys Road. The 24-hour lane restriction will remain in place for the duration of the project, marking the transition from utility work to Stage 1 construction. Drivers are urged to plan for delays and allow extra time, as congestion is anticipated throughout the work zone.

The large-scale project will relocate the current Ridge Pike and Germantown Pike intersection about 1,300 feet east and introduce a new signalized intersection designed to improve safety and traffic flow. Plans also include construction of a Germantown Pike connector road linking Ridge Pike to Pechins Mill Road, a new roundabout connecting River Road to Germantown Pike, additional turn lanes, and upgraded stormwater drainage systems.

Allan Myers, Inc. of Worcester is the general contractor for the federally funded project. Once completed, PennDOT expects the redesigned corridor to reduce congestion, enhance safety, and modernize one of the region’s most heavily traveled intersections.
