Lancaster Stormers Expand Into Year-Round Youth Training

Lancaster Stormers

LANCASTER, PA — The Lancaster Stormers have opened an indoor baseball and softball training center at Penn Medicine Park, expanding the team’s operations into year-round youth player development with a schedule of clinics running through April.

The Player Development Center, located at 650 N. Prince Street, includes batting cages, regulation-style pitching mounds, and dedicated areas for defensive and catching instruction. The facility allows athletes to train regardless of seasonal weather conditions.

The Stormers have scheduled 13 clinics and multi-session programs beginning November 2, following an initial round of October clinics.

The expansion establishes a permanent training operation at the ballpark, using its facilities and coaching personnel to provide instruction beyond the team’s regular baseball activities.

Training will cover hitting mechanics, pitching, fielding, catching and softball-specific skills, with instruction provided by a seven-member coaching staff.

Troy Steffy, the Stormers’ hitting coach, leads baseball operations and hitting instruction. Other coaches include AJ Alexy for pitching, Nate Geesey for catching and Aidan Sturtevant for infield development.

Softball instruction is provided by Brionna Rinier and Jaclyn Wardrop, with Jenn Schroeder serving as softball pitching instructor.

The Stormers plan to broaden the center’s programming during the winter and spring, adding hitting leagues using HitTrax technology, home run derbies, tournaments and batting practice sessions with professional players.

Additional offerings are expected to include arm care, strength and conditioning, catcher development, fielding instruction and 60-yard dash training.

The organization also plans introductory clinics for children ages 4 to 6 and educational seminars addressing player development, NCAA athletics and hitting techniques.

Steffy said the program is intended to develop skills beyond athletic performance.

“We train the athlete on and off the field,” Steffy said. “In addition to their athletic skills, we help them with their character and life skills.”

The facility’s programming is presented by Play It Again Sports and Orthopedic Associates of Lancaster.
