InterDigital and Samsung Reach New Patent Licensing Agreement Following Arbitration

WILMINGTON, DE — InterDigital, Inc. (Nasdaq: IDCC) has finalized a new patent licensing agreement with Samsung Electronics, concluding a lengthy arbitration process that began early last year.

The new agreement renews Samsung’s access to InterDigital’s portfolio of patented cellular wireless and video technologies. The companies had entered binding arbitration in January 2023 after the expiration of their previous licensing deal on December 31, 2022.

The dispute resolution marks a continuation of a longstanding business relationship between the two tech giants. Samsung has been one of InterDigital’s most significant licensees over the years, and this agreement helps ensure continued collaboration amid the rapidly evolving global wireless and multimedia landscape.

“We welcome the conclusion of the arbitration process and our agreement with Samsung,” said Julia Mattis, Interim Chief Licensing Officer at InterDigital. “Samsung is one of our longest licensees and I am delighted that we have been able to continue our long-term partnership.”

InterDigital, headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware, develops foundational technologies for wireless, video, and AI applications, and monetizes its intellectual property through licensing agreements with major technology companies worldwide.

While terms of the new agreement were not disclosed, the resolution helps solidify InterDigital’s revenue outlook and underscores its ability to enforce and renew key licensing relationships in a competitive and often litigious IP landscape.
