QUAKERTOWN, PA — Rebecca Prendergast has launched an independent campaign for Pennsylvania’s 145th House District, creating a three-way contest for the November general election against Republican incumbent Craig Staats and Democratic nominee Les Mavus.
Prendergast, who is running as an Independent Party candidate, said her campaign is aimed at voters dissatisfied with the two-party system and focused on affordability, tax policy and development issues in Upper Bucks County.
“Craig Staats has had more than a decade to deliver results, and families feel ignored, left behind, and unheard. We deserve better,” Prendergast stated when announcing her candidacy.
The 145th District race is scheduled for Nov. 3 and will feature Staats, who is seeking another term, Democratic candidate Les Mavus and Prendergast.
Prendergast said she plans to campaign on lowering household costs, including groceries, fuel, utilities and housing, while advocating for what she described as responsible tax policies designed to improve affordability and help seniors remain in their homes.
The candidate also called for a moratorium on new data center development until additional safeguards are established for residents, workers, natural resources, the electric grid and taxpayers.
“Upper Bucks should not become a testing ground for unchecked data-center development,” Prendergast said. “These projects raise utility costs, threaten our drinking water, and harm working farms across Bucks County.”
Prendergast indicated that additional information about her policy platform, campaign events and volunteer opportunities will be released in the coming weeks.
