PHILADELPHIA, PA — The ramp from Castor Avenue to northbound Interstate 95 will close overnight Thursday, September 24, forcing Northeast Philadelphia drivers onto a detour during preparations for a major traffic shift.

Drivers heading to northbound I-95 will be directed west on Castor Avenue, north on Aramingo Avenue, and left onto Adams Avenue. From there, motorists can access the northbound I-95 ramp at the Betsy Ross Bridge Interchange.
Plan extra time and expect delays near the closed ramp and along the detour route. The work is weather dependent.
The traffic shift is expected to begin by early October as part of the first major phase of PennDOT’s $311 million I-95/AF3 project.
The new pattern will move three northbound I-95 lanes into the median for approximately two years, allowing crews to reconstruct northbound I-95 and its bridges between Tioga Street and Wheatsheaf Lane.
