I-95 Night Closures at Girard Point Could Disrupt Your Drive

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Overnight lane closures will continue through May on Interstate 95 near the Girard Point Bridge, potentially slowing traffic in Southwest Philadelphia during late-night hours.

Lane closures will be in place weeknights on either northbound or southbound I-95, beginning with a single lane restriction at 9:00 PM followed by a double lane closure overnight.

Motorists traveling through the corridor should expect reduced speeds and periodic backups, especially during overnight construction windows. Plan extra time and consider alternate routes when possible.

No travel restrictions will be in place during the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

PennDOT will maintain three lanes of traffic in each direction during daytime hours and is coordinating construction schedules to reduce impacts during major events in South Philadelphia.

The work is part of a $261.5 million project to rehabilitate the Girard Point Bridge and surrounding structures, including deck repairs, steel rehabilitation, drainage upgrades, and improvements to lighting and traffic systems.
