PHILADELPHIA, PA — Drivers on southbound Interstate 95 through South Philadelphia should prepare for a weekend-long lane restriction as PennDOT crews perform bridge repairs between Oregon Avenue and Front Street.

- Roads Affected: Southbound I-95
- Dates: Friday, Oct. 9, through Monday, Oct. 12
- Times: 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday
- Reason: Bridge repair
PennDOT said a lane closure will remain in place continuously on southbound I-95 between Oregon Avenue and Front Street throughout the weekend.
Drivers should plan extra time and expect backups through the work zone, particularly during heavier travel periods. The schedule is weather dependent and could change if conditions prevent crews from completing the work as planned.
The repairs are part of a $60.4 million project targeting high-priority bridge deficiencies on interstate corridors across the Philadelphia region.
Work under the contract includes repairs to deteriorated bridge decks, structural steel, weld cracks, concrete beams, bridge railings, guiderail and sign supports. Crews are also replacing or repairing expansion joints and other bridge-deck components.
Additional work involves repairing portions of bridge substructures, bearing pedestals and steel bearings, cleaning bridge seats, resetting expansion bearings and removing debris beneath structures.
PennDOT also plans to clean and repaint overhead steel sign structures and upgrade existing roadway lighting with LED fixtures.
IEW Construction Group Inc. of Hamilton, New Jersey, is the general contractor. The project is financed entirely with federal funds.
