PHILADELPHIA, PA — In the pre-dawn hours of Wednesday, December 27, 2023, a pedestrian was critically injured in an alleged hit-and-run incident on West Lehigh Avenue, according to the Philadelphia Police Department. The victim, an unidentified male, was struck by what investigators believe to be a red SUV, possibly a Cadillac or GMC model.
Officers from the 25th District responded to the incident at approximately 3:09 a.m., after receiving notification from Temple Hospital where the victim had been transported by medics. The man, who was found lying in the middle of the highway at 501 W. Lehigh Ave., was placed in critical condition upon arrival at the hospital.
Preliminary investigations have relied heavily on footage from Real Time Crime Cameras located near the scene of the incident. The video captured prior to the crash shows the victim in the roadway when he was struck by the red SUV. The vehicle was last seen heading west on Lehigh Avenue from 7th Street.
Unfortunately, the victim remains unconscious and unable to provide a statement at this time.
The Philadelphia Police Department is urging anyone who may have information regarding this incident to contact the Crash Investigation Division at 215-685-3180 or 3181, referencing Officer Farrell (#2425) and the case number (DC-23-25-077630 or #23-2118). Authorities have advised the public not to approach the suspected vehicle if spotted, but to call 911 immediately.
