Hamilton Lane’s Giannini to Retire After Three Decades

Hamilton Lane

CONSHOHOCKEN, PA — Hamilton Lane (Nasdaq: HLNE) Executive Co-Chairman Mario Giannini will retire March 31, 2027, ending a more than three-decade tenure during which the private-markets investment manager expanded globally, entered new businesses and became a publicly traded company.

Giannini joined Hamilton Lane in 1993 as its third employee and served as chief executive officer from 2001 through 2023. During that period, the firm expanded its geographic reach and investment operations and completed its initial public offering in 2017.

He moved to the executive co-chairman role in 2023 as Juan Delgado-Moreira and Erik Hirsch succeeded him as co-chief executive officers.

Hamilton Lane now manages and advises on more than $1 trillion on behalf of clients, a scale Delgado-Moreira and Hirsch attributed in part to Giannini’s role in developing the firm.

“The firm we lead today, managing and advising on more than $1 trillion on behalf of our clients, reflects the vision and leadership he brought to its development,” the co-CEOs said.

Giannini will remain active through his March retirement, including maintaining his regular travel schedule and writing Hamilton Lane’s 2027 Market Overview.

He has authored the firm’s annual Market Overview for years, using it to assess private-market conditions and industry trends. Giannini also produced commentary during periods of market disruption and policy change, including the COVID-19 pandemic and more recent shifts in tariff policy.

“When I joined Hamilton Lane in 1993, we were a small team with a big idea about private markets,” Giannini said. “Watching the firm grow into a global platform serving thousands of clients has been the privilege of my career.”

After Giannini retires, Hartley Rogers, who currently serves alongside him as executive co-chairman, will become Hamilton Lane’s executive chairman and continue as chairman of the board of directors.
