PHILADELPHIA, PA — Sidewalks will become canvases and the streets of Fishtown will fill with color later this month as artists, musicians, food vendors, and local businesses come together for a creative summer celebration under the El.
Fishtown District will launch its 2026 Under the El Bazaar series with Chalk of the Town on Saturday, June 27, transforming the 1700 block of North Front Street into a vibrant outdoor arts festival from noon to 6 p.m.
The free event invites residents and visitors to spend an afternoon exploring large-scale chalk art installations, live music, local shopping, family activities, and food and drink offerings from some of the neighborhood’s most popular destinations.
“This event continues to showcase everything that makes Fishtown special—local creativity, small businesses, great food, and a strong sense of community,” said Max Thalheimer, business outreach manager for Fishtown District. “Chalk of the Town offers a unique opportunity to experience public art while supporting the neighborhood’s restaurants, vendors, and artists.”
Throughout the day, local artists will create elaborate chalk murals directly on the pavement, giving visitors a chance to watch the artwork evolve in real time. Families can also participate in the festivities through a dedicated chalk area designed especially for children.
The June event marks the first installment of the 2026 Under the El Bazaar series, with additional themed events scheduled for July 18 and Aug. 15. Organizers say each month will feature a different experience while continuing the series’ focus on local businesses, live entertainment, public art, and community engagement.
Food and beverage options will be available throughout the festival, with participating businesses offering special menus, outdoor food stations, and beverage selections.
International Bar will serve handmade crepes from its outdoor grill, while Percy Diner & Bar plans an outdoor pizza station and drink specials. Evil Genius Beer Company will operate a beer tent and keep the celebration going with live music following the Bazaar. Other participating businesses include LMNO, offering walking tacos and margaritas, Mecha Noodle Bar with indoor and outdoor specials, and Pure Green, which will host a pop-up tent and post-event DJ set.
Live music will provide the soundtrack for the afternoon, featuring performances by Danielle & Zach, April FoolChild, and Moustapha Noumbissi.
Organizers encourage attendees to bring friends, family members, and even four-legged companions, as the event is both family-friendly and dog-friendly.
