LIMERICK TWP, PA — Drivers should prepare for periodic lane closures on Ferndale Lane as crews continue work to replace the Linfield Road bridge over a tributary of the Schuylkill River, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

Periodic lane closures will restrict traffic during the scheduled work hours. Motorists should plan extra time when traveling through the area because backups and delays may occur.
No detour was announced. Drivers should use caution around construction crews and seek alternate routes when possible. All scheduled activities are weather dependent and may be postponed or rescheduled.
The work is connected to the replacement of a 112-year-old, one-lane bridge carrying Linfield Road over the tributary. The existing concrete-encased steel I-beam structure is listed in poor condition and carries more than 6,600 vehicles per day.
Crews will replace the 12-foot-long, 24-foot-wide bridge with a precast box culvert. The new structure will be approximately 30.5 feet wide, providing two 11-foot travel lanes and shoulders.
Additional improvements include reconstructing the roadway over the bridge, milling and resurfacing the approaches, and installing new bridge barriers and guiderail.
The work is part of a $10.1 million state-funded project to replace or rehabilitate multiple bridges across the five-county Philadelphia region. Loftus Construction Inc. of King of Prussia is the general contractor.
