MIDDLETOWN TWP, PA — PennDOT is warning motorists to brace for weeks of daytime disruptions as construction activity expands across three key roadways in Middletown Township under a $10.9 million project aimed at easing congestion and improving safety at major intersections.
From Monday, February 2, through Friday, February 27, periodic weekday lane closures with flagging will be in place from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Langhorne-Yardley Road between Bridgetown Pike and Briggs Road. Similar restrictions will occur during the same hours on Woodbourne Road between Kilburn Road and the entrance to Core Creek Park, as well as on Ellis Road between Fulling Mill Road and Woodbourne Road.
PennDOT said drivers should expect backups and delays throughout the work zones and are advised to allow extra travel time when moving through the area. All scheduled activities are weather dependent and subject to change.
The February construction is part of a broader, multi-year effort to untangle long-standing traffic bottlenecks and reduce crash risks. Under the contract, PennDOT’s contractor has already completed a new single-lane roundabout at Langhorne-Yardley Road and Bridgetown Pike, which reopened Friday, August 15, 2025. Additional completed work includes roadway realignment, upgraded traffic signals, stormwater management improvements, ADA-compliant curb ramps, new signage and lighting, resurfacing, and enhanced accommodations for pedestrians and bicyclists.
Work will continue through early 2026 and includes plans to realign the northern leg of Woodbourne Road, construct auxiliary turn lanes on all four approaches, and widen the eastern leg of Woodbourne Road to add a left-turn lane on Langhorne-Yardley Road approaching Erica Drive.
James D. Morrissey, Inc. of Philadelphia is serving as general contractor on the project, which is funded with 80 percent federal money and 20 percent state funds.
