NORTH EAST, MD — Cecil College President Dr. Mary Bolt has been named a recipient of the Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society’s highest honor for community college presidents, the organization announced.
Bolt was recognized during PTK Catalyst, the society’s annual international convention held March 26–28 in Baltimore.
The award honors college presidents who demonstrate sustained commitment to student success through academic achievement, leadership development, and expanded access to opportunity. Recipients must have served at least five years and are nominated by students on their campuses.
According to Phi Theta Kappa, Bolt’s leadership has emphasized student recognition and engagement, with a focus on academic achievement and leadership development at Cecil College.
“Dr. Bolt leads with authenticity and an unwavering commitment to students,” said Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner, president and CEO of Phi Theta Kappa. “This honor reflects the gratitude of students who have experienced her leadership firsthand.”
The Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction is named for the late Phi Theta Kappa board chair and longtime advocate for community college students.
Phi Theta Kappa is an honor society recognizing academic achievement among students at associate degree-granting institutions, serving more than 4.4 million members across nearly 1,250 chapters worldwide.
Cecil College, founded in 1968, offers degree, certificate, and workforce development programs serving Cecil County and the surrounding region.
