MEDIA, PA — Residents of two Delaware County legislative districts turned over 8,605 pounds of unwanted electronics for recycling Aug. 8 at Penn State Brandywine, diverting the devices into a processing system designed to recover materials for reuse.
State Rep. Lisa Borowski and state Sen. John Kane hosted the free collection and paper-shredding event for residents of the 168th House District and 9th Senatorial District in partnership with Reworld and sponsor MRM.
Reworld transported the collected electronics to its Philadelphia e-waste processing facility, where the devices are sorted and dismantled and their component materials separated into commodity streams for reuse in manufacturing supply chains, according to information provided by the event organizers.
The electronics are processed in accordance with Pennsylvania’s Covered Device Recycling Act, which governs recycling requirements for covered electronic devices.
The collection offered residents a no-cost disposal option for electronics that can pose environmental and safety concerns when improperly discarded while recovering materials that can be returned to manufacturing.
Residents who still have unwanted electronics can take eligible items to participating Goodwill Keystone facilities at no charge, according to the organizers. Reworld handles processing of electronics collected through those locations.
