NEWTOWN, PA — Drivers in Newtown Borough and Newtown Township should prepare for significant weekday disruptions this summer as PECO Energy begins a large-scale utility improvement project that will close portions of two key state highways.
Starting Monday, July 21, and continuing through the fall and into early 2026, both Centre Avenue and State Street will be affected by extended closures. From July 21 through October 31, Centre Avenue will be closed weekdays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM between Sycamore Street and State Street. State Street will face a longer closure, from July 21 through January 30, 2026, on weekdays between Centre Avenue and Fountain Farm Road during the same hours.
Detours will route motorists via Route 332 (Newtown Bypass) and Sycamore Street. Local access will remain available, though drivers should expect delays and plan extra travel time.
The improvements are part of PECO’s ongoing infrastructure modernization efforts aimed at enhancing service reliability in the region.
