PHILADELPHIA, PA — In a significant nod to the Greater Philadelphia region’s vibrant athletic community, the Dietz & Watson Philadelphia Half Marathon has been nominated for Best Half Marathon in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. This recognition comes as the event sold out for the first time in 2023, with an impressive 15,000 registered athletes.
Deputy Managing Director David Wilson expressed his delight at the nomination, attributing the event’s success to both the loyal athletes who participate annually and the newcomers drawn to the uniquely crafted course and experience.
The Dietz & Watson Philadelphia Half Marathon is famous for its picturesque course that guides runners through the vibrant city of Philadelphia. Spanning nearly ten miles, participants traverse urban landscapes, exploring the historic neighborhoods and scenic streets of the city. From the rich history of Old City to the bustling energy of Center City and the serene paths of Fairmount Park, the route culminates near the iconic Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Now in its 31st year, the Philadelphia Marathon Weekend has evolved from a modest local gathering of 1,500 runners to one of the nation’s top 10 marathons. Each year, crowds gather along the course to support and cheer on the athletes, embodying Philadelphia’s spirit of celebrating champions.
The 2024 Race Weekend showcases the AACR Philadelphia Marathon on Sunday, November 24; the Dietz & Watson Philadelphia Half Marathon, Rothman Orthopaedics 8K, and Nemours Children’s Run on Saturday, November 23; along with a complimentary two-day Health & Fitness Expo on Friday, November 22 and Saturday, November 23.
